Paul Simon and Stephen Colbert redo “Feelin’ Groovy” for the Trump era

Of the songs in the Simon And Garfunkel oeuvre, “The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy)” arguably ranks as one of the most cheery. But what place does cheer have in 2017? None, according to Paul Simon and Stephen Colbert, who performed a rewrite of the song more appropriate from the doom and gloom of the Trump era. Here’s a sample of the new lyrics: “Hello lamp post, nice to see ya/ We might get bombed by North Korea/ We’re getting close to World War III/ So run to the shelters, feelin’ groovy.” Ironically, “feelin’ groovy” remained a refrain even as the duo sung about death, destruction, and, eventually, Kellyanne Conway.
