Pavement announces The Secret History Vol. 1, a collection of its cuts circa 1992
Pavement fans are about to have the option to own even more of the somewhat short-lived band’s material. Pavement – The Secret History Vol. 1 is coming this August 11 on Matador, and will be chock full of the band’s b-sides, unreleased session tracks, Peel sessions, and material from a 1992 live show. All of the songs on the record are from the group’s Slanted And Enchanted era, meaning fans of that record–one of the band’s best—will find much to discover. Additionally, 25 of the 30 tracks on the double LP have never been released on vinyl before (though they’re on the Slanted & Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe CD) and the record’s liner notes include essays from both Stephen Malkmus and Spiral Stairs, as well as notes from the group’s label, management, and pals.
The Secret History Vol. 1 is just the first in a five-volume series coming from Pavement, with the idea being that every official Pavement record should have a shadowy companion album full of unreleased and rare material. There are no release dates for the next four records yet.
