Peter Capaldi will return for another season of Doctor Who

As foreshadowed by the fact that his incarnation of The Doctor didn’t die at the end of the most recent season finale, Peter Capaldi will be staying in Doctor Who’s time-traveling box for at least another year. This comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which got the information out of showrunner Steven Moffat himself at a recent event celebrating the release of the show’s eighth season on DVD. Of course, this does reveal the fact that Capaldi’s doctor apparently won’t die during the upcoming Christmas special—which features Nick Frost as Santa Claus—so maybe we should’ve included a spoiler warning. Oh well.

Moffat also mentioned that the return of Jenna Coleman—Clara Oswald on Doctor Who—has not been confirmed, suggesting that she really did leave the TARDIS for good during the show’s season finale. However, Moffat has been known to lie about that sort of thing in the past, so it’s incredibly likely that he’s just trying to fuel speculation about whether or not she’ll come back to get people talking about Doctor Who. We’re not going to give in to Moffat’s blatant manipulation more than we already have, though, so we’ll just take him at his word. Jenna Coleman will not be returning to Doctor Who. Unless she does.
