Peter Florrick to run against Hillary Clinton in The Good Wife season 7

According to The Good Wife co-creator Robert King, Peter Florrick is set to launch his own bid for President of the United States on the Democratic ticket in the upcoming seventh season of the CBS legal drama. And he’s running against none other than real-life presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton. “If Peter runs, he is running against Hillary,” King told TV Line, adding that it’s “amazing” CBS is “letting us do that.” But King would probably also like to point out that this isn’t real. Life may be sort of imitating art by allowing Clinton to enter the world of The Good Wife, but just like Josh Charles isn’t actually dead, Chris Noth isn’t actually running for president. Just so we’re clear.

King also said that Peter’s campaign storyline will parallel the official real-life primary timeline, and the Iowa Caucus will go down on the show on the same night it happens in reality. But again, this is just storytelling! None of it is real! Josh Charles is not dead. “The difficult thing for us is we started writing these scripts in June, so you’re always kind of guessing where things are going,” King added. “And we’re stunned in politics how things change overnight. We’re not sure if Biden will enter the race at this point. We have the ability to ADR some lines in if that’s necessary, but we’re kind of playing the betting game at this point.”

Well, if the show runs into any issues when it comes to predicting how things are going to unfold, we know that its ADR abilities are only rivaled by its green-screen abilities. King said that depending how things play out in real life, the show might steer “off from reality at some point.” Unlike Clinton, Donald Trump is not invited to season seven of The Good Wife. The characters likely won’t even mention him. Fellow co-creator Michelle King explained: “Peter is running on the democratic ticket, so at this point there’s not been reason to bring [him] up.”

Season seven, which will feature Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Peter Gallagher’s eyebrows, and character actress Margo Martindale, returns to CBS on October 4.
