Peter Hook, Peter Hook’s shift key respond to New Order reunion

In a sign that the war of words between Peter Hook and his former bandmates in New Order is far from over, the bassist has issued a response to the band’s upcoming, Hook-less reunion. In addition to asserting that the terms of the two-gig reunion were negotiated without Hook’s input, the statement levies the charge that a New Order without Hook’s fluid, melodic basslines is “like QUEEN without FREDDIE MERCURY, U2 without THE EDGE, SOOTY without SWEEP!” (Or Peter Hook’s computer without a shift or caps lock key.) Having confirmed that Sweep is a crucial, squeaky castmember of the British children’s series The Sooty Show, The A.V. Club would also like to point out that New Order minus Hook is an awful lot like the songs of Joy Division minus the voice of Ian Curtis, a theoretical which Hook doesn’t mind. [Pitchfork]
