Peter Krause joins Ryan Murphy’s 911 drama
Ryan Murphy’s TV empire continues to grow—the Glee and American Horror Story creator is heading back to Fox with a new drama, 9-1-1. Fox announced the latest block in their partnership with Murphy and Brad Falchuk, who were also behind the now-defunct Scream Queens, a while back. But at the TCA summer press tour today, the broadcast network shared some casting news—Peter Krause has joined Angela Bassett in the 9-1-1 cast. There’s no word on what roles either acclaimed actor will be playing, but Fox CEO Dana Walden did tease that the new series’ setup will echo that of Nip/Tuck: Instead of kicking off by wondering “what don’t you like about yourself?,” every episode will ask “What’s your emergency?” We suppose that could still turn into a discussion of one’s looks or self-esteem, but 9-1-1 will probably focus on more pressing concerns.
Given Murphy’s obvious knack for producing, it’s entirely possible 9-1-1 could become the flagship series for a whole franchise of first responder dramas. Sure, that’s more Dick Wolf’s territory, but since he’s now so caught up with depicting murders, there might be more room for expansion.
