Peter Sarsgaard’s number is up in first The Magnificent Seven trailer
The first trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven remake has just been released, and it sets the stage for the Old West showdown between the titular septet and Peter Sarsgaard’s band of bandits. Anyone who’s seen the 1960 Western starring Yul Brynner and Steven McQueen, which was itself the first remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, is already familiar with the story, but the teaser takes us through the paces while also sharing its new beats: A widow (Haley Bennett) seeks out a bounty hunter played by Denzel Washington in her quest for revenge for her husband’s death. He’s swayed by her grief, and recruits gunslingers played by his old Training Day pal Ethan Hawke, who guns down the bad guys, and Pratt, who puts the sass in sarsaparilla. A gatling gun makes an appearance, as does Matt Bomer as Bennett’s ill-fated husband.
Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun (I Saw The Devil), Martin Sensmeier (Salem), and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series’ Manuel Garcia-Rulfo round out the rest of The Magnificent Seven, which rides into theaters September 23.
