Philip Seymour Hoffman joins Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, and Gary Oldman in adaptation of Child 44

Safe House director Daniel Espinosa is filming an adaptation of Child 44, Tom Rob Smith's 2008 bestseller about a Stalin-era Soviet military police investigation into a series of child murders. The critically lauded book, the first in a trilogy Smith completed last year, is based on real-life serial killer Andrei Chikatilo. Espinosa and producer Ridley Scott have assembled a top-notch cast, as Philip Seymour Hoffman has just signed up in an as-yet-unspecified role to join Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, and Joel Kinnaman. The film is due out in 2014.
