Pillars Of Eternity II reaches crowdfunding goal in a day, is scheduled for 2018

Pillars Of Eternity was a huge Kickstarter success for the developers at Obsidian Entertainment. After raking in nearly $4 million in crowdfunding and saving the company from serious financial woes, the throwback RPG turned out to be one of the most critically lauded games of 2015. Yesterday, Obsidian returned to crowdfunding to seek backing for a sequel, and it took less than a day for Pillars Of Eternity II: Deadfire to surpass its $1.1 million goal. The project has 28 more days to raise more money and meet the various stretch goals the developer has lined up. Only one stretch goal has been announced thus far: the addition of sub-classes for both players and their computer-controlled allies, so that you monk might add a little drug-addled flair to its martial arts, for example.

Instead of going to Kickstarter again, Deadfire is campaigning on Fig, a crowdfunding platform that focuses solely on games and allows users with enough cash to invest in a production and get a piece of its revenue. Obsidian’s CEO, Feargus Urquhart, is one of the company’s board members. Obsidian expects the game to release in early 2018 on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.
