Plucky scamp Terry Gilliam still trying to make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, enlists Ewan McGregor 

There’s probably some sort of literary allusion to be made regarding Terry Gilliam’s decade-long quest to make a film based on Don Quixote, and while the director’s efforts could be best be described with an adjective that means “foolishly impractical, especially in the pursuit of lofty ideals,” he’s apparently yet to be dissuaded: Ewan McGregor recently told Empire magazine that he will be starring opposite Robert Duvall in Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, officially taking over for Johnny Depp, who was forced to abandon the role he’d been attached to ever since filming first began in 2000 in order to make the next Pirates Of The Caribbean. Gilliam’s film—with a newly reduced budget of $20 million—will still follow the story of a 21st-century advertising executive (McGregor) who travels back in time to the 17th century and becomes an unwitting Sancho Panza to Duvall’s Don Quixote. As documented in 2002’s Lost In La Mancha, Gilliam’s first attempt at the film was beset with all manner of disaster, ranging from flash floods and hail to then-star Jean Rochefort suffering a herniated disc and filing a $15 million insurance claim. It remains to be seen whether God still hates Terry Gilliam.
