Pogo delivers another delightful Disney remix romp

Electronic musician Nick Bertke, better known as Pogo, definitely has a shtick. Take a film, cut it up into nigh-unrecognizable sonic elements and create new compositions that play on re-crafted nostalgia from the source material. Since his 2007 YouTube hit, “Alice,” (which The A.V. Club’s own Erik Adams called a “hypnotic distillation” of the 1951 Disney film) he’s remixed everything from Lord Of The Rings to Pulp Fiction to The Muppets. Bertke returns to his Disney roots with “The Trouble,” combining elements from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Peter Pan, and others, although Alice once again takes center stage, this time anchoring the song with a line from the Alice In Wonderland number “Very Good Advice” (which also featured heavily in Pogo’s first Alice video). Collaborator and fellow remixer Joshua “Jeesh” Kershaw provides the accompanying video–an element arguably of equal importance to the Pogo experience as the music. “The Trouble” may be familiar territory, but that makes it no less enjoyable.
