Posters for Seinfeld movie Rochelle Rochelle are making a strange, erotic journey through New York
Rochelle Rochelle, a young girl’s strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk, has been on a lot of people’s minds lately, thanks in no small part to Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, as well as the fact that anyone who watched Seinfeld has been wanting to see it for approximately 20 years. And who wouldn’t? It’s a story about life. And love. And becoming a woman. And now it’s on the streets of New York, thanks to artist Jason Shelowitz, a.k.a. Jayshells, who followed his recent projects of hip-hop lyric street signs and guides to subway etiquette with his Rochelle Rochelle poster, plastered across the Upper West Side.
Unlike those recent posters Next Movie created for Seinfeld’s many fake films—which, amid its Channing Tatum/Jason Statham-starring Deathblow and Daniel Craig-led Chunnel, featured Anne Hathaway as the least enticing Rochelle since Bette Midler—Jayshells’ version is faithfully recreated from the movie’s original art as seen on the show. (“A foreign movie—a film is what it is.”) Though, a closer look at the credits reveals it’s also stuffed with Seinfeld references, which should make it all the more desirable to fans.
Still, if you really want a copy—and you're not among the people who already stole one—like George at the video store, you’re gonna have to pay a hefty price. They’re $150 apiece, owing to them being crafted out of expensive, adhesive-backed vinyl, and the slightest possibility that a woman will take her top off. But maybe, like Rochelle, when the naysayers say nay you pick up your pace, and you say nothing’s gonna stop me, so get out of my face. Or you just have a chuckle and move on, and wait for Shelowitz to make a Sack Lunch poster. Surely that wouldn’t cost that much. [DNA Info via Hypervocal]
