The streaming wars have a new, baby-snatching, husband-stealing, psychotic warrior on the battlefield, as Lifetime announces that it’s launching a new subscription VOD service based entirely around Lifetime Original Movies. Called Lifetime Movie Club, the service will cost $3.99 a month and will include an initial library of 30 movies, which will be refreshed weekly. So you’ll have to get on it quick if, say, Drew Peterson: Untouchable pops up one day.
The movies will be organized into Netflix-style playlists with names like “Summer Lovin’,” “Murder & Mayhem,” and “Dramatic Affairs.” Speaking of: A handful of Lifetime movies are currently available on Netflix, including the appealingly titled Restless Virgins and She Made Them Do It and the pulpy true-crime movie Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret. It’s unclear if, now that Lifetime has its own streaming service, these titles will be pulled from Netflix, but even if they aren’t, the network still has a huge back catalog to draw from. The press release announcing the service touts recent high-profile movies like Flowers In The Attic, along with “Lifetime classics, all-time greats and memorable titles.” Hopefully that includes a healthy dose of Tori Spelling, because if you haven’t seen Co-Ed Call Girl yet, you‘re really missing something special.
Lifetime Movie Club is only available as an app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch for the time being, because you don’t watch a Lifetime movie for the cinematography.
