Preorder Carrie Brownstein’s new book for a chance to win a trip to NYC to see Sleater-Kinney

It’s already been a massive year for the multi-talented Carrie Brownstein: With the release of Sleater-Kinney’s exhilarating No Cities To Love, a concurrent world tour, another guest stint on Transparent, and, of course, more Portlandia, you might think that she’d be keen on saying “Cacao!” and taking the rest of 2015 off. But she’s far from done; as we’ve been excitedly tittering about for months now, Brownstein will be releasing her memoir, Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl, at the end of the month. The book, which is said to be a “deeply personal and revealing narrative of Brownstein’s life in music,” will hit shelves on October 27 via Riverhead Books. We’ve been fortunate enough to get our hands on a copy at The A.V. Club offices and, though Kyle Ryan’s full review won’t run until later in the month, he notes, “Brownstein writes crisply, insightfully, and without vanity.”

Fans eager to get their hands on the book may already be planning to preorder, but now there’s even more incentive to do so: The A.V. Club is teaming up with Riverhead Books and Sub Pop Records to give one lucky reader a round-trip for two to New York City this December to see Sleater-Kinney perform at Terminal 5. In other words, if you preorder you’ll be entered for your chance to win the following:

  • Two tickets to see Sleater-Kinney live at Terminal 5 in New York City on December 13.
  • Round-trip airfare and transportation for you and a guest to NYC.
  • Two night stay at an NYC hotel (December 12 and 13).

To win, preorder Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl from the retailer or website of your choice, then head here to fill out the entry form with your information and order confirmation number. Entry forms must be completed by October 27. U.S. entrants only. A winner will be selected at random from the eligible entries on or around November 3 and will be notified via email shortly thereafter.

And, finally, because we’re always looking for more excuses to watch it, here’s the amazing, Bob’s Burgers-enhanced video for Sleater-Kinney’s “A New Wave.”
