Prepare for Twin Peaks’ return with this officially sanctioned “Coffeetime” playlist
On May 21, Twin Peaks will return after a several-decade period during which it lived exclusively in the form of people constantly telling you you have to watch Twin Peaks. Now that everyone has seen Twin Peaks, though, it is returning triumphantly alongside a bunch of totally rad skateboards and, now, this officially sanctioned playlist from star Kyle MacLachlan called “Coffeetime.” Might it match the evocative, minor-key ambient of Angelo Badalamenti, newly warped to reflect the passage of time? Perhaps it’s all eerie, grooving lounge music, all the better to listen to while nursing the previous night’s harrowing investigation into small-town depravity?
Perhaps not. It mostly consists of classic rock like Steely Dan, Warren Zevon, and the Rolling Stones, as well as some grunge and Elliott Smith. As MacLachlan notes in the description, “I guess it’s true when they say you can never escape your past,” presumably speaking about his past and not the past of Agent Dale Cooper, who is trapped in a sort of submerged purgatory and haunted by the demons of his youth.
