Surprise, the Pretty Little Liars are still being terrorized in second season trailer
The second season of the teen murder mystery reboot, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, premieres May 9 on Max
The one rule of Pretty Little Liars is, no matter how many mysteries you solve, how deep down the rabbit hole you go, or how frequently you unmask A, the twisted, murderous mind games must always continue. Such is the case for the second season of the rebooted series, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School (premiering May 9 on Max). Sure, the bad guys were revealed and arrested at the end of the first season, but the Liars’ counselor (Annabeth Gish) doesn’t understand that their very unique trauma will inevitably continue.
“Following the harrowing events of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, our Pretty Little Liars face a fate worse than death—summer school,” reads a synopsis of the new season from Max. “However, Millwood High isn’t the only thing getting in the way of their fun summer jobs and new, dreamy love interests. A new villain, who may or may not have a connection to A, has come to town and is going to put them all to the test.”
The new trailer has all the hallmarks of a summer slasher, with classic part-time jobs (at the pool! The pizza parlor! The movie theater!), girls wielding butcher knives in self-defense, and couples stealing away to an abandoned shack only to get murdered by a masked villain mid-coitus. The very meta difference between this series and the classic summer slasher is that the Liars (Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, and Maia Reficco) are well aware that they’re “final girls.” They’re working through their PTSD, taking self-defense classes, and trying to get their grades back on track so they can get to junior year. Yet they can’t help but get sucked back into another life-threatening mystery—just when you think they’re out, the specter of A will pull them right back in. And that’s classic Pretty Little Liars.
