Lionsgate has confirmed that Craig Gillespie will take the reins of its long-gestating adaptation of Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, the Seth Grahame-Smith novel that repurposes Jane Austen’s classic novel as a self-explanatory gimmick. The project has been passed around since last year, growing increasingly tattered and soiled as it passed through the hands of David O. Russell and Mike White before Gillespie gamely volunteered to pick it up. Gillespie is the director of the quiet, quirky indie Lars And The Real Girl who recently graduated to franchise fare with the upcoming Fright Night remake, and Lionsgate says it’s his knack for balancing “genre-bending horror and elegant character-driven comedy” that made him “perfect for this movie,” which makes one wonder why they didn’t just go to him in the first place, then. Anyway, hopefully Gillespie is serious about committing, because we don't think this movie can handle much more rejection without developing some sort of abandonment complex.
