Prince and Lady Gaga may be writing songs for The Great Gatsby soundtrack

The Great Gatsby has decided to use its’ delayed release date-lemons to make Prohibition-era lemonade, as Baz Luhrmann has been using that time to spruce up the soundtrack. Adelaide Clemons, who plays the film's Catherine, tells Indiewire that “some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film,” going on to say, “I don’t think Warner Bros. are going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door.”

While Clemons immediately demurred by saying she wasn’t sure she was allowed to actually confirm those are the specific artists trying to weasel their way onto the soundtrack—which won't be officially revealed until closer to the film's May 10, 2013 release—let’s just assume they are, as they don't seem totally preposterous. After all, Prince is no stranger to soundtrack work (though he hasn’t contributed a track to anything since 2006’s Happy Feet). Gaga, on the other hand, isn’t really a soundtrack queen, but she is fond of getting involved in anything that’s both spectacular and over the top, and Luhrmann’s 3-D Gatsby adaptation should fit the bill.
