Private Life’s Kathryn Hahn and Tamara Jenkins on why they made a movie about infertility

Private Life, the new comedy-drama from Netflix and director Tamara Jenkins, follows a couple in their 40s—Kathryn Hahn and Paul Giamatti—as they struggle to conceive their first child. While not explicitly autobiographical, Private Life is based loosely on Jenkins’ own experiences with her partner. At the premiere, we spoke with Hahn and Jenkins about the film and the importance of shedding light on issues of infertility.
