“Prop Wars: Prop Harder” is a treasure trove of iconic movie props
Really all you can ask for from a geeky fandom video is high production values and a cheeky sense of humor. And this Sneaky Zebra short film has both in spades. The premise is that three friends are locked in a battle to the death using iconic props from movies. That includes everything from Thor’s hammer and Captain America’s shield to Harry Potter’s wand, The Mask, and Men In Black’s “noisy cricket.”
The eight-minute “Prop Wars: Prop Harder” is a continuation of the original “Prop Wars” video from 2013, in which Nick Acott, Gary Scullion, and Edward Mackintosh battled it out in a shorter prop fight. Teaming up with nerd-merchandise provider Loot Crate allowed the sequel to be much more elaborate than the original.
Creators.co spoke to Scullion about the process of making the sequel. It was filmed across eight months, including some elaborate reshoots due to technical problems. And Scullion spent 19 straight days completing the VFX. In addition to a blooper reel, Sneaky Zebra also released a version of the video that compares the VFX and no-VFX versions of the fight, which helps viewers appreciate just how much work went into the seamless final project.
