Public Image Ltd. to release first new album in 20 years

It’s been 20 years since John Lydon’s phenomenal, occasionally just frustrating post-punk pioneers Public Image Ltd. released an album, an interim that Lydon has spent primarily cashing in on his legacy in various ways, giving cranky interviews, and always, always insisting that he was “constantly” working on new material that would see the light someday. It looks as though that long-promised hour will finally arrive on April 21, when PiL debuts the vinyl-only EP One Drop, as part of the annual Record Store Day. You can hear the skittering, ska-inflected title track below from its recent appearance on BBC 6. Both it and the EP serve as a prelude to the first new PiL full-length in two decades, This Is PiL, which the band’s website now says is due in May or June. [Slicing Up Eyeballs via Pitchfork]
