Puddle Of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin causes bomb scare with homemade car alarm
Apparently, Puddle Of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin suffers from some kind of curse related to modes of transportation. Back in 2015, he was arrested for trying to ride on an airport baggage carousel, and now his car has become a hot target for thieves. According to TMZ, Scantlin’s car has been broken into multiple times recently, but that’s not really the issue here. The bigger problem is that Scantlin decided to try to improve upon his car’s existing—and evidently shoddy—anti-theft technology by rigging together some kind of homemade car alarm.
As the TMZ report tells it, Scantlin got two cars, attached a radio underneath one of them, and then connected wires from the radio to the engine. With the second car, he had wires running from the door to the gas tank. It’s unclear if this actually scared off any thieves, but it did have the unintended affect of seriously freaking out his neighbors. Fearing that he was attempting to set off a bomb, the neighbors called the cops, the cops brought in a bomb squad, and four nearby buildings were evacuated while they defused Scantlin’s poorly conceived anti-theft contraption.
Scantlin wasn’t charged with anything, but TMZ says the police “laid into” him for the “stupid idea, which drained police resources.” Maybe next time he won’t throw so many Puddle Of Mudd CDs on his backseat, and then people won’t want to break into his car.
