Pulp, Hot Chip, Girl Talk, and more now confirmed for that Coachella cruise
The Coachella cruise rumored earlier today is, in fact, happening. The New York Times confirms that Pulp, Hot Chip, Girl Talk, Yeasayer, Sleigh Bells, LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, and about 15 other acts—one of which Billboard says is Cloud Nothings—will be setting sail on the S.S. Coachella this December. Finally, fans will have at least a miniscule chance of being shipwrecked with Jarvis Cocker.
The trip, which is being organized by L.A. promoter Goldenvoice, will make two trips through the Caribbean aboard the Celebrity Silhouette, “a 1,000-foot, 122,000-ton ship with room for 2,800 fans” a half-acre of grass, cabanas, and a small theater that Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett told the Times is like “a mini-Royal Albert Hall.” (But does the gift shop sell glow sticks and SPF 100?)
A three-day trip to the Bahamas leaves Ft. Lauderdale Dec. 16 while a four-day trip to Jamaica leaves Dec. 19. Prices start at $500 a person for a four-person cabin and run up to $9,000 a person for a “sky suite” with a veranda. That doesn’t include bar tabs, transportation to Florida, or the four-day supply of American Apparel tank tops everyone on board is required to pack.
