Pusha T goes scorched earth with his latest Drake diss track
There’s no point to a polite diss track; after all, nobody’s tuning into a rap feud to hear two guys talk about how much they respectfully disagree with the other guy’s position, and hope they can part as friends. Still, there’s a certain difference between gleefully offering up a “fuck you” to a rival, and going totally “Let’s get this guy, scorched earth-style,” and the long-simmering conflict between Drake and Pusha T now appears to have crossed that particular line. Pusha—whose new album, the Kanye-produced Daytona, came out last week—issued a new track slamming the Toronto superstar today, accusing him of, among other things, being a self-involved, self-obsessed deadbeat dad.
As its name suggests, “The Story Of Adidon” is a remix of JAY-Z’s “The Story Of O.J.” off of last year’s 4:44. (Meanwhile, the song’s album art, which depicts Drake in black face, is apparently taken from an actual picture taken by the Scorpion musician, rather than from Photoshop, as one might initially expect.) The track itself is calm but aggressive, with Pusha T taking aim at Drake’s friends (mocking frequent producer Noah “40" Shebib), his dad, and most especially his alleged relationship with adult model and actress Sophie Brussaux, who, the song alleges, he has an unsupported child with. It is, in other words, some brutal fucking stuff, a step beyond anything in Drake’s braggy “Duppy Freestyle.” It remains to be seen how Drake’ll respond to this latest, extra-personal escalation; whether he’ll double down and fire back something equally vitriolic, or pull back in the interest of preserving some remaining part of his relatively clean cut image.
