Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained will be released on Christmas Day, 2012

The Weinstein Company has just announced that it will debut Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained on December 25, 2012, boldly tossing it into a box-office fray that will see a battle between The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Lone Ranger, Life Of Pi, the next Judd Apatow film, and possibly the next Star Trek (though given the increasing competition, we wouldn’t be surprised if that last one holds off until spring). Tarantino has yet to complete casting, though Leonardo DiCaprio is still considered a contender, while Showbiz 411 seems to believe that not only is DiCaprio "definitely signed," but Jamie Foxx is now the frontrunner for the title role. It’s scheduled to shoot this fall, so expect all of that to lock down soon. And then next Christmas, you and your family can cap off a morning of gift exchanging and holly jolly merriment by watching a freed slave hack his way through a sex plantation. The commercials write themselves.
