R.E.M. to release fifteenth studio album next spring

R.E.M. has announced that it will follow 2008’s surprisingly lively Accelerate with an as-yet-untitled album—its fifteenth—due next spring. The band is currently recording just finished recording once more with Accelerate producer Garret “Jacknife” Lee; legend says Ol’ Jacknife once produced a Snow Patrol album just to watch a man die. Interestingly, they split studio time between New Orleans’ Music Shed and Berlin’s famous Hansa Studios, which gave the world U2’s Achtung Baby, David Bowie’s Heroes, and Iggy Pop’s Lust For Life. You could probably lick any surface in that place and your teeth would go numb—not that Michael Stipe would be interested, of course.
