The San Luis Obispo Tribune has the news that animator Art Clokey has died at the age of 89. Clokey created the venerable stop-motion characters Gumby and Davey And Goliath. It's worth clicking through to read the obit, which has the details of Gumby's origins and Clokey's difficult childhood, spent partly in an orphanage thanks to a stepfather who didn't care for him. He got to entertain generation after generation of children who felt otherwise.
