R.I.P. Glenne Headly, Steppenwolf actress
The actress Glenne Headly, who was known for her work with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and in projects like The Night Of, has died, Deadline reports. She was 63.
Headly was an early member of Chicago’s legendary Steppenwolf, where she collaborated with the likes of Laurie Metcalf and her ex-husband John Malkovich, the latter of whom directed her Broadway debut, a production of George Bernard Shaw’s Arms And The Man. The actress garnered multiple Jeff and Theatre World Awards during her stage career. The New York Times noted in a 1985 profile explaining how Headly performed through injury that she “is an actress who can recreate herself in dramatically different personae.”
She went on to star in films like Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Dick Tracy, Mortal Thoughts, and Mr. Holland’s Opus, while her work in the TV movies Lonesome Dove and Bastard Out Of Carolina earned her two Emmy nominations. To get a sense of how her talent spanned genres, take a look at two of her recent appearances: She played both lawyer Alison Crowe on HBO’s lauded miniseries The Night Of, and Ben Wyatt’s mom in Parks And Recreation. At the time of her death, she was working on Hulu’s upcoming comedy Future Man.
In a statement per Deadline, her representatives said: “It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the passing of Glenne Headly. We ask that her family’s privacy be respected in this difficult time.” There is currently no information available as to the cause of her death.
