R.I.P. Ray Harryhausen

Visual effects legend Ray Harryhausen has died, according to a statement from his family. Harryhausen was 92, and had worked since the 1930s as a pioneer in a field of stop-motion animation he'd created known as "Dynamation," giving vibrant life to faraway worlds and mythical creatures long before the advent of digital trickery. His impact on moviemaking and the imaginations of all who saw his work in films like Jason And The Argonauts, The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad, and Clash Of The Titans is immeasurable, but easily seen in the millions of directors, writers, fellow animators, and fans of the fantastic who followed him.

We're working on a longer look at Harryhausen's career that will be posted soon. In the meantime, here are some of the many amazing things he brought to the movies.
