R.I.P. Stereophonics drummer and BBC host Stuart Cable
According to numerous reports, Stuart Cable, former drummer for British rock band Stereophonics, died early Monday morning at his home in south Wales. He was 40.
Cable was a founding member of the group, stemming from its days as a cover band in the early ’90s. He remained with Stereophonics through its fourth album, 2003’s You Gotta Go There To Come Back, before being fired after a falling-out with lead singer Kelly Jones. Numerous reports cited growing tensions over Cable’s burgeoning career as a TV and radio presenter (he hosted both Cable TV and Cable Rock for BBC Wales), although Cable’s 2009 autobiography, Demons And Cocktails, suggested that one of the contributing factors was Jones’ desire to produce the band’s third album. Since leaving Stereophonics, Cable performed off and on in new projects like Killing For Company, while also briefly co-hosting for XFM and Kerrang! before returning to his regular BBC gig. Cable had just hosted his Saturday Night Cable show before his death. Police are said to be investigating, although there are no suspicious circumstances to report as of yet.
