Radiohead, The Cure, Janet Jackson nominated to spend eternity in downtown Cleveland

Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the nominees for its 2019 class this morning, Billboard reports, with Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, and the Cure leading an impressive lineup that also includes cult favorites like MC5, Todd Rundgren, and the Zombies.

Other possible entrants include LL Cool J, Rufus & Chaka Khan, and Rage Against the Machine, as well as a slew of first-time nominees in Def Leppard, Devo, John Prine, and Roxy Music. There’s also Radiohead, who we’re guessing still don’t give a shit.

To be eligible, an artist’s first recording must have been released at least 25 years ago or earlier. As Consequence of Sound points out, that makes this the first year of eligibility for artists like Beck, OutKast, Snoop Dogg, and Dave Matthews Band, though none made the cut. Previous nominees that didn’t get a nod this year include Kate Bush, Nine Inch Nails, and Depeche Mode, among many others.

Five of the nominees will be selected for induction by an international body of more than 1,000 voting members, though fans can head over to RockHall.com to cast a ballot of their own. Voting commenced today and goes through December 9.

The ceremony will unfold at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on March 29 before the chosen artists are shuffled back to Cleveland, where they’ll live the rest of their days behind UV-filtering glass.
