Rage Against The Machine, Kanye West, Sonic Youth, and more boycott Arizona

Arizona’s tough new immigration law has earned the state a lot of enemies, but it’s also forged a few unexpected friendships—all based on coming together in expressing their hatred of Arizona. The latest of these is an alliance called The Sound Strike: Launched by Rage Against The Machine’s Zack De La Rocha, it's a coalition of acts who refuse to play shows in Arizona until the law is repealed, including Sonic Youth, Kanye West, Cypress Hill, Conor Oberst, Massive Attack, Tenacious D, Ozomatli, Joe Satriani, Rise Against, Spank Rock, Serj Tankian, Street Sweeper Social Club, Los Tigres Del Norte, Cafe Tacvba, Calle 13, One Day As A Lion, Sabertooth Tiger, and Michael Moore, who’s listed as an “act” for some reason.

The group currently has a petition asking that President Obama take executive action, as well as another calling for more artists to sign up and boycott the state, a move De La Rocha compares to Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat on the bus. Yeah, it’s not really the same, but if Arizona ever wants to see Kanye West or Sonic Youth again, they may want to contact their governor’s office.
