Random Rules: Barack Obama
As part of its eons-long effort to rip off The A.V. Club, Rolling Stone has asked Barack Obama what artists are on his iPod. In an upcoming interview with the magazine, Obama will talk about his love of Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Yo-Yo Ma, Jay-Z, Elton John, Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bruce Springsteen, and The Rolling Stones. Of Dylan he says, "Actually, one of my favorites during the political season is 'Maggie's Farm.' It speaks to me as I listen to some of the political rhetoric." And when asked about rap: "I am troubled sometimes by the misogyny and materialism of a lot of rap lyrics, but I think the genius of the art form has shifted the culture and helped to desegregate music."
In related news: John McCain likes ABBA, although his love of John Mellencamp and Chuck Berry is sadly unrequited.
