Rashida Jones producing AMC series about sitcom wives with the working title Kevin Can F*** Himself
A bizarre staple of so, so many sitcoms is the schlubby, selfish dude with a wife who’s as out of his league as she is long-suffering. No actor’s been as guilty of this trope as King Of Queens star Kevin James, who, on Kevin Can Wait, saw that wife killed off and subsequently used as joke fodder when ratings dipped, itself a testament to what an afterthought the character actually was. Now, TVLine reveals that the scorned wives of yore will have their day in a new series in development at AMC.
Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are serving as the executive producers of Kevin Can F*** Himself, a “working title” that we’re begging them to use should it go to series. Creator Valerie Armstrong is currently hosting a writers room for the show, which “explores the secret life” of “a beauty paired with a less attractive, dismissive, caveman-like husband who gets to be a jerk because she’s a nag and he’s ‘funny.’”
TVLine reports that the series would alternate between “single-camera realism and multi-camera zaniness,” which evokes Bojack Horseman in its promise of delightfully broad, groan-worthy comedy leavened with a more nuanced approach.
The only way James can bounce back from this seismic own would be to star as said caveman, which would, admittedly, be kind of interesting.
