Take a few minutes before Super Bowl XLVII to read Grantland’s excellent oral history of “The Super Bowl Shuffle,” the rap by the 1985 Chicago Bears that sold more than half a million copies, got the team nominated for a Grammy, and inspired a music video featuring Nick Kroll, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Sidney Rice on The League. The history features interviews with recording personnel, record label executives, and members of Da Bears, and traces the inception of the track, the Bears’ season, and troubles with the intended charitable donations from the proceeds.
