Most people have probably never heard the name Jonathan Wolff, but chances are they’ve almost certainly heard his music. Over the course of his decades-long career in television, Wolff was responsible for writing some of the ear-wormiest theme songs of all time including Married…With Children, The King Of Queens, and Seinfeld.
In a new interview over at Noisey, Wolff shares some interesting behind-the-scenes insights about the challenges and rewards of working on a show like Seinfeld where by necessity he was forced to write and record completely new and unique intro pieces for every single episode. He also discusses his early use and adoption of sampling, the state of television theme song writing in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and reveals exactly what the deal was with that slap bass sound; it was a synth all along. “Ba-ding…doopy-doo-doo.”
