Read This: The FBI wrote MLK Jr. a letter, encouraging him to commit suicide

The Internet is full of interesting things to read outside of The A.V. Club—no, really! In our periodic Read This posts, we point you toward interesting or noteworthy pieces that caught our eye.

This letter is ancient news, but in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday (he would've been 84 today), the excellent, engrossing Letters Of Note pointed Twitter followers to it today. The missive, later revealed to have been composed by the FBI, calls King's character into question and threatens to reveal embarrassing audio tapes if he doesn't do "the only thing left for you to do." Scary. Consider this post a blanket endorsement of the site, which publishes intriguing correspondences almost daily. It's like history and entertainment all wrapped up in one, so you won't feel like you're frittering your life away on the Internet (as much). And most of the letters aren't nearly as bleak as the MLK one. Here's one a little kid wrote to Frank Lloyd Wright, asking him to design a dog house.
