Rebecca Black's new video is directed at you, the hater
As promised a mere week ago, on a Monday that followed the weekend we were all looking forward to, accidental Internet sensation Rebecca Black has debuted her follow-up to “Friday” and the YouTube video that briefly captivated a smirking nation. And don’t think that all that ironic appreciation of “Friday” escaped Black’s attention: She targets “My Moment” squarely at all the “haters” who doubted her, as she’s “about to prove you wrong” with a song commemorating the fame that she’s already achieved, as evidenced by all the scenes of her riding in a limo. While it lacks the immediate street-level observations about breakfast and seating options in automobiles of her early work, “My Moment” is clearly a much more personal anthem for Black. Backed only by her band of multiracial young musicians and a smidgen of judiciously applied AutoTune, Black and her serious-time bangs step up and own the stardom that she rightfully earned when her mother cut a $4,000 check to Ark Music to make her a pop star.
