Rebel Wilson to play a Nazi camp counselor in Taika Waititi's World War II satire
According to Deadline, Rebel Wilson has joined Taika Waititi’s World War II satire Jojo Rabbit as Fraulein Rahm, a “brutish instructor” in a Hitler Youth Camp that the main character—a 10-year-old boy struggling with his country’s descent into fascism—is recruited into. Deadline’s sources say that Wilson’s character teaches the children that Jewish people “are the embodiment of mythical creatures,” but when the boy’s mother hides Jewish girl in their home, he begins to reject the propaganda he’s being taught and realizes that she’s a normal person just like him.
Scarlett Johansson will play the boy’s mom, with Sam Rockwell playing the Nazi officer who runs the camp. Waitititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok and appeared in that film as the lovable rock person Korg, will reportedly play Adolf Hitler in Jojo Rabbit. As we previously noted, though, this won’t be the real Hitler, but an imaginary friend version who is “goofy, charming, and glides through life with a child-like naivety.” To put it mildly, it seems like this is going to be a weird movie.
