Rebel Wilson to star in gender-swapped Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake

Thanks to the popularity of Ghostbusters, Hollywood studios are slowly opening their eyes to the existence of women, who up until recently were thought to be incapable of starring in remakes of movies that originally starred men. The latest experiment in making movies that aren’t all about dudes is an update of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the 1988 comedy starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine as con men who are trying to steal money from an heiress. Variety reports that Rebel Wilson will star in a remake of the film as one of the eponymous scoundrels; the other scoundrel hasn’t been cast yet, but Variety says that together they’ll be trying to get money from “a naive tech prodigy” this time around.

It doesn’t sound like a director is attached yet, but Wilson will also be one of the film’s producers and its screenplay was written by Jac Schaeffer, who previously made the sci-fi-ish romantic comedy Timer.
