Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are both in talks for A Wrinkle In Time

Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time may have locked down its three “witches,” with Variety reporting that Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are both in talks for the galaxy-spanning Disney film. Kaling will reportedly play Mrs. Who, offering guidance to Madeleine L’Engle’s time-tossed, tesseractin’ protagonists in the form of an endless string of multi-lingual quotes, while Witherspoon will play Mrs. Whatsit, a mysterious old woman who’s eventually revealed to be a kind of radiant angelic horse. (Witherspoon’s part was played by Alfre Woodard in the 2003 TV-movie version of L’Engle’s beloved book.)

The duo will join Oprah Winfrey’s Mrs. Which in giving guidance, protection, and direction to Calvin O’Keefe and Meg and Charles Wallace Murray’s quest to rescue the Murrays’ missing father. Meanwhile, none of the younger stars for the big-budget Disney adaptation have been announced yet, although casting descriptions for the movie suggest DuVernay is looking to cast minority actors in the parts.
