Reese Witherspoon to play an astronaut in Pale Blue Dot
Reese Witherspoon is on board to co-produce and star in Pale Blue Dot, about an astronaut who has trouble readjusting to life back on Earth. Named for the famous photo of a distant Earth taken by the Voyager 1 spacecraft in 1990, the story comes from the idea that the time astronauts spend viewing Earth from a distance can be difficult to process psychologically, and Witherspoon’s character starts to lose her grip on reality, despite what on the surface seems like an ideal life.
The story comes from writers Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi, who have been in demand since their screenplay Uncle Shelby wound up on The Black List, an annual list of notable unproduced screenplays floating around Hollywood. Also in the works for Witherspoon are the HBO limited series Big Little Lies opposite Nicole Kidman, and the romantic comedy Wish List.
