Reese Witherspoon to produce and star in supernatural thriller

Reese Witherspoon regularly displays a can-do attitude on and offscreen, whether she’s tackling hair-related stereotypes while trying to earn a fictional law degree or establishing her own production company to snap up woman-centric film adaptations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Witherspoon’s latest project will see her dealing with the supernatural—probably while keeping her feet firmly on the ground—in the new thriller Cold.

Cold is still in pre-production, with Lionsgate having just bought the pitch from screenwriter Bill Marsilii, whose credits include Déjà Vu and a few episodes of Courage The Cowardly Dog. It’s described as a “dark thriller with supernatural elements,” which we can already picture Witherspoon’s character shooing away because she has a fundraiser or coup to plan.

Witherspoon will produce the film with her Pacific Standard Films partner Bruna Papandrea. The two women previously worked together on Gone Girl and Wild (which earned Witherspoon another Oscar nomination), and also have a live-action Tinkerbell story and HBO limited series in the works.
