Regular Show ends its fourth season, which means the fifth should be on in just a few weeks
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Monday, August 5. All times are Eastern.
TOP PICK
Regular Show (Cartoon Network, 8 p.m.): This is supposedly the season finale of season four. Supposedly. Anyway, the episode description says that Mordecai has a big question for Margaret, so we wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if it was. However, since this show makes, like, 500 episodes at a time, it’ll probably be back next week, almost as if it never left. And whenever it comes back, Alasdair Wilkins will be there to cover it and to scoff at our inability to learn the names of the Bird Thing and the Raccoon Thing.
REGULAR COVERAGE
Adventure Time (Cartoon Network, 7:30 p.m.): We are serious Finn/Bubblegum shippers here at What’s On Tonight central. Like. Serious. So now that he’s going with her to Castle Lemongrab after his breakup with Flame Princess, we’re like, “EEEEEEEEE!!!” and Oliver Sava is all rolling his eyes and sighing at us.
Switched At Birth (ABC Family, 8 p.m.): This episode is entitled “The Merrymakers,” which is, incidentally, the name of Carrie Raisler’s up-tempo adult contemporary band, which plays weddings throughout the greater Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. Sorry. They’re booked solid through 2014.
Teen Wolf (MTV, 10 p.m.): In an episode called “Alpha Pact,” Cora’s life needs saving, and Derek and Peter figure they’re just the ones to do it. Incidentally, Alpha Pact is the name of Phil Dyess-Nugent’s prog-rock/experimental metal band, which plays gigs throughout the greater Boise metropolitan area.
Under The Dome (CBS, 10 p.m.): In “Thicker Than Water,” everybody learns about the mini-dome’s power, and Scott Von Doviak wants to know if A.V. Club style has the hyphen in “mini-dome” or just a space. Looks like a hyphen, Scott, so stick to that. If you don’t, we’ll have you publicly humiliated, okay?
TV CLUB CLASSIC
The IT Crowd (11 a.m.): Caroline Framke has just three weeks left of these reviews, as she begins the fourth and final series—well, fourth and final for now—with thoughts on “Jen The Fredo” and “The Final Countdown.” No word yet on whether her review of the latter will feature an illusion, Michael.
Justice League (1 p.m.): While the Justice League members fight a pitched battle in the background, the foreground narrative instead follows Booster Gold, and we’re left thinking of Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s “The Zeppo.” Oliver Sava assures us that any similarities between the two works are wholly coincidental.
Scrubs (3 p.m.): J.D. behaves like a giant asshole in the next-to-last installment of Myles McNutt’s reviews of season three, and that’s a choice that has hotly divided fans over the years. Myles thinks it makes sense within the show’s universe. We agree, but we’re sure you have thoughts of your own.
WHAT ELSE IS ON
Paw Patrol (Nickelodeon, 8:30 p.m.): In this brand new show, a bunch of rescue dogs save the day in a variety of exciting ways. In the first episode, the pups save some cats—heresy!—and a doomed train, and in future episodes, they’re going to save some bunnies. We can barely contain our excitement.
Americans In Bed (HBO, 9 p.m.): Are you an American? Have you ever been in a bed? Then this new documentary just might be about you. Did HBO pop by your house to do a talking head interview? If so, then we’d bet that this movie is all about your own experiences in bed. If not, well, tough luck, kiddo.
MythBusters: Breaking Bad Special (Discovery, 10 p.m.): It’s been a while since we checked in on the MythBusters, so we’re going to take a look at a new special that examines whether the AMC series is true to life. Obviously, Breaking Bad is a documentary, and the events happened in real time.
Restaurant Takeover (Cooking, 10 p.m.): We had hoped this show was like a really cool CounterStrike map, with a bunch of guys with guns streaming into a restaurant and yelling, “Go, go, go!” and stuff like that, but it just sounds like it’s yet another show where someone tries to turn around a restaurant. Boo.
The Godfather (AMC, 8 p.m.): Hey, you know what? This movie is pretty good. If you’ve never seen it, you should check it out. Though, really, it would probably be better if you rented it on DVD or something, because it’s going to lose a little something with commercial breaks. We’re just saying.
Beasts Of The Southern Wild (HBO Signature, 9 p.m.): This indie came out of nowhere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival to become one of the major players in last year’s film scene. Even if you didn’t like it, it was sure fun to argue about. Plus, the cinematography and score were impeccable.
MLB Baseball: Angels at Yankees (ESPN, 7 p.m.): The Yankees are clinging to a record just above .500 and look as if they might fall out of the playoff hunt entirely in the next few weeks. The Angels… well, they have Mike Trout! That’s a thing they can be proud of. Other than that, though? Not much.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Ray Donovan (Sunday): Last night’s TV wasn’t just about the Breaking Bad première. There was other stuff on, too! Like this episode of Ray Donovan that sent the protagonist to Boston for some reason and ended up being Sonia Saraiya’s favorite episode of the show in a while. Isn’t that exciting?
