Relax, sit back, and enjoy the sight of Ted Cruz getting played off a stage mid-speech
Sometimes—especially on days where the news cycle seems dominated by incompetent executives, failing financial regulations, and rampant tentacle porn—we need to embrace the simple pleasures in life. Bunnies playing in the field. The smile of a happy child. Ted Cruz getting inadvertently dunked on by an inattentive tech guy.
The former presidential candidate—and current Guy Fieri fictional paramour—was speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington today, when he got a little too enthusiastic in his thanking of the people in attendance. The resulting applause appears to have triggered a Pavlovian response in the “audio-visual volunteer” running the show, who abruptly cut the Texan senator off to announce the next speaker, just nine minutes into Cruz’s speech.
Confronted with some surprisingly poppy walk-off music, Cruz had no choice but to give a resigned shrug—a.k.a., the internationally recognized symbol for being Ted Cruz—and depart the stage. (Cue the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme in our heads.) Conference organizers later apologized for the awkward moment, apparently unaware of how much stress relief and joy they’d managed to spontaneously summon into the world with their simple scheduling gaffe.
