Remember Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" from a million years ago? It was just settled in court

February 2004 seems like a lifetime ago, doesn't it? Justin Bieber was 9, The Wire hadn't even premiered yet, and Americans were still primarily concerned with "occupying" other countries. Oh, and there was that controversial Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show, the one where Justin Timberlake showed Janet Jackson's titty to football fans and TV commercial enthusiasts all over the world. Boy, if only we knew about the crushing unemployment and economic uncertainty that awaited us; we might have enjoyed those fleeting moments of pop-star nudity a little more. As it is, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia finally put the matter to bed Wednesday, ruling that CBS doesn't have to pay $550,000 in fines levied by 20 affiliates for indecent exposure. Voting 2-1 to void the fine, the court stated that the FCC has maintained a "consistent refusal" to treat sudden nude images as indecent, and there was no reason to treat the Jackson case differently.
