Remember what it was like to feel good about politics with this Knock Down The House trailer
It’s hard to imagine now, but there was a time—around, say, 2008—when caring about politics could actually be exciting and fulfilling. Give or take eight years later, though, politics became a nightmare pit of nothing but hellish misery, where the most sane of us would rather scoop out their eyes with burning spoons than to try and think about politics with any level of seriousness. In the 2018 midterms, though, some pioneering candidates decided to try and change that by bringing back some of that “hope” and “change” we bought into a decade ago. Filmmaker Rachel Lears followed four of these candidates for her documentary Knock Down The House, and now Netflix has released a trailer for the surprisingly hopeful political film.
The four subjects, all women, are Nevada’s Amy Vilela, Missouri’s Cori Bush, West Virginia’s Paula Jean Swearengin, and—most famously—New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. We won’t spoil what happens in the documentary, but let’s just say that it’s not particularly hard to find out which political candidates won in elections that happened several months ago.
Knock Down The House premieres on Netflix on May 1.
