Rent Marlowe’s apartment from The Long Goodbye (cat not included)
For only $2,800, fans can live the life of a world-weary private detective who is disconnected from time and stuck in a morally gray world of hippie chicks and malcontent cats. The apartment where Philip Marlowe resided in Robert Altman’s adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s The Long Goodbye is now available to rent. Oddly well-timed with the recent Blu-ray release, the one bedroom/one bathroom apartment is located in the Hollywood Hills and is presumably within driving distance from supermarkets where the workers will judge you for having a cat in your life instead of a girl.
Of course, if you’re not a Marlowe fan (and woe unto those who aren’t) the listing also points out some of the residence’s other claims to fame:
Also featured in Kenneth Branagh’s film Dead Again. Author Michael Connelly lived and wrote there. David Copperfield lived up there for several years in the ’80s while performing at the nearby Magic Castle.
That’s a lot of history all packed into one cool Art Deco building for a rather reasonable price. Plus a remote door opener for the garage! Though it doesn’t mention groovy neighbors or a random appearance by a half-naked Arnold Schwarzenegger, one would assume those are just standard issue with Los Angeles rentals.
