Report: GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot died of a heart attack brought on by pre-existing condition

Cory Smoot, who played guitar and the character Flattus Maximus in the metal band GWAR, died from a heart attack caused by pre-existing coronary heart disease, according to a statement released by the band and Smoot's family. Smoot was found dead last month after a show in Minneapolis as GWAR attempted to cross the border into Canada. The band is currently touring as a fourpiece and hasn't announced plans to hire a new guitarist. GWAR and label Metal Blade has set up a fund to help Smoot wife and his unborn child; donations can be made here.
