Rhea Butcher goes in on sports sexism in a new track from her debut stand-up LP
With her debut album, Butcher, due out August 19 on Kill Rock Stars, Rhea Butcher is about to make a bit of a comedy splash. The comedian, who appeared on Conan just last week, has blended her Akron-born blue-collar sensibilities with jokes about sports and femininity, both of which are touched on in “Bicycles And Baseball,” the track from Butcher that The A.V. Club is premiering below. The hilarious bit, which finds Butcher both musing about being insufferable and talking about the differences between baseball and softball, was recorded in Portland and is especially perfect listening now in the run up to the MLB All-Star Game.
Butcher is out August 19, and is available for pre-order via KRS now. It’s also worth noting that Butcher will appear alongside her wife, Cameron Esposito, in Take My Wife, a new series that the pair both co-created and produce. That show premieres August 11 on Seeso, though patrons in Chicago can get an early look at the show later this month as part of The Comedy Exposition.
